Punk’d Again!

Ride date December 19, 2009

I was looking forward to Saturday’s ride; it looked like it was going to be a nice day with some new trail to ride and some people from the club to ride with.  How wrong I was!  I showed up at the designated time and place as shown on the club ride calendar:

Here were the instructions from the ride calendar:

Meet at Cedar Cycle at 9 AM, or Tukupetsi Trailhead, about a half mile west of the Jacob Hamlin Home at about 10 am on Saturday Dec 19.

I arrived at the trailhead to an empty parking lot, but that was okay, I was a few minutes early.  I just got my gear together while I waited.  Another rider whom I didn’t know pulled in shortly after but he kept to himself.  Soon I was ready to ride but no-one from the club had showed up yet?  That’s okay; sometimes people run a little late, I would hang out a while longer. Hmmm, yeah okay, 45 minutes, what’s going on I started to wonder, I’ll just give it a few more minutes……………  WTF!  No-one has showed, I’m at the right place and at the right time! Okay fine, I ride by myself all the time, I guess the club ride was just a no-show.  Real riders ride, they don’t whine, I’ll just go do the scheduled ride by myself!  It was a good day, I rode pretty much all of the available single-track from this trailhead which totaled out to be about 15 miles.  Mostly it was not too technical and about half of it was single-track.  Riding new trails on new terrain is always fun and conditions were excellent; the soil was firm and fast!  The petro-glyphs on the Rock-Writing trail were very impressive!  I was able to ride pretty much every trail section from this trailhead including some short out and backs.  I can say that it has not yet all developed into prime riding trail but most of it was very enjoyable.  As the only club rider to show up for the scheduled ride I was pleased, I had a good day!

Imagine my surprise when I found out that the ride leader decided to bail out on the ride and do another ride somewhere else on that day!  Without any notice of the change or anyone bothering to check the designated meeting location to see if anyone was waiting there!  Again I say What The Fuck!  It’s no wonder this club is dying on the vine and can’t find new members!  You can’t get any more disrespectful than that, I don’t get it!  Whoever decided to change the ride at the last minute, I hope you had a good fucking ride.  Just remember, it is this kind of bullshit that is killing the god-damned bike club!

I guess the only explanation is that I have been Punk’d once again. It has happened enough in the past that you would think I’d be expecting it by now, but noooo! I guess I am old school enough to think that when people commit to something  they will follow through. Clearly with this bunch of self centered losers that is not the case.

Over the last couple of years I have only showed up for about a dozen or so club rides.  About half of those were not held as stated in the schedule or no-one showed and I ended up riding by myself.  I am probably not the only one to experience this kind of bullshit.  It makes me wonder if I should bother to show up for any more club rides, I mean, what’s the fucking point?  If you can’t keep to the God Damned schedule then what the fuck is the calendar for!

BTW:  I did briefly talk to the other guy that was waiting at the trail-head but he left before I did.  He went away mad.

PS:  Since this incident I have yet to receive a direct apology from those responsible for the disrespectful behavior.  Instead I have been blamed for displaying bad behavior myself and admonished by many in the club.  It seems a little backward to me; it’s okay to be disrespectful and irresponsible to your fellow club members but don’t you dare complain about it!

What, is this the new club forum? If you guys have a problem with the club why not use the club’s website to post your issues. Or better yet, show up for a meeting.

JRider, it’s because dissent is not allowed on the club’s website. You will not see anything even mildly critical posted there, it’s not allowed! Only feel good stuff and lameness is permitted. Just try and post something negative, it will never see the light of day! If we all pretend to get along then there is nothing wrong, right?

Anonymous too!……….. I know who you are. Shame on you!

MTB Rider…. You are right, look at this months club ride calendar, 1 mountain bike ride!!! What is that about? I ride all the time and when I do show up to ride with the club there are only a couple of riders there. Then you have to wait for people and don’t get in as much riding. It’s not worth it, a real club would ride more!

  4. MTB Rider Says:

There aren’t any mountain bike rides on the CCCC ride calender anymore anyway. It seems like this is a road only club now. I mostly ride the dirt so if mountain bikes are dead in this club then I’m outta here! See Ya!

  5. Anonymous Says:

WTF is right! I choose to remain anonymous since some of the people in this club are my friends and I dont want to offend them. Most in this club are predominantly from a specific Utah demographic that emphasizes a kind and giving nature. But 6 days a week when they are riding, most of these faithful members will treat you like wickedness itself. They might enjoy you for awhile but sooner or later if you don’t measure up you will be cast off without so much as a good riddance. Don’t need you anymore, See Ya!

    Sincerely but anonymously

Color Country Cycling Club, those posers are the worst!!! They think they know what they are doing but don’t really have a clue. They have alienated the real talent that they had in the area and are clueless. Unorganized and unmotivated to be better, riding with them is a waste of time! They should change their name to LAW (Losers and Wannabees)!

I tried showing up for a couple of rides with this same club (the CCCC). They were mostly ego monsters who could give a rip about the others they were riding with. They would let you pull one minute and then drop you the next and never look back. They have no clue as to what a bike club is supposed to be. Sorry to hear that you were treated badly by these clones too!

I have since received the following reply from a member who shall remain anonymous:

Congratulations! Someone with a little spunk. Having been punked several times in the past–both Mountain and Road–I certainly share your frustration. When I raised my complaints with the Club hieracrchy they went nowhere. It is probably a good thing that we did not have the “open” forum at that time or I would be the one waiting to receive my punishment.

I believe as you do, that if you assume the role of ride leader you had better show up because there is no reasonable way to assure that you can contact all those that might show up.

I will be following the aftermath with anticipation.
