The day is finally here, and Eroica California is on! Approximately 700 riders have signed up for one of the three routes, a 40 mile short course, a 65 mile route and of course the 127 mile long route. My frequent riding partner Bob and I will be riding the long route.

Today was a good day. I brought my old motorbike over to the concours of bicycles and hung out for a while. I hooked up with Bob, my riding buddy from Utah and we chatted with lots of people over the next hour or two. Andreas who works for Brooks, Nicola who is with the L’Eroica group from Italy and Tim from L’Eroica Britannia. All very interesting people who were wonderful to talk to about their passion for the sport.

After arriving last night, today was about getting out and seeing a bit of the area, on a bike! I was able to do a bit of a pre-ride on the first 30 miles of the route and what I can say at this point is that it is a spectacular course. It will also be a challenging route which traverses endless rolling hills, punctuated by some dirt roads as well as some real climbs. Heroic is definitely an appriopriate adjective for this event.
